New London to New Brighton
Antique Car Run
Thursday, August 12 and Friday, August 13 - short tours & events in the New London area. The 120+ mile Grand Tour begins at 7:00 am on Saturday, August 14, 2010.
The Antique Car Run is a 120 mile endurance tour for all vehicles from 1908 and earlier, or any 1 & 2 cylinders through 1915. The Car Run began in 1987 as a way for New Brighton to reinforce its namesake ties to Brighton, England. For over 100 years, a Car Run has been held in England, commemorating the repeal of the "red flag" law that prevented cars from traveling without a walker carrying a red flag preceeding vehicles. The British Run occurs the first Sunday in November between London and Brighton. It is a 56 mile frenzied trek on the crowded city streets. The American version is a 120 mile countryside tour from New London to New Brighton.
